Celebrating Two Great Years and Many More to Come

On June 12th Gunboat hosted a group of over 70 Gunboat owners, crews, and industry partners for a private event in Newport RI, celebrating milestones of success and disclosing company updates to the close-knit Gunboat community.

Just two years after Grand Large Yachting hosted a similar event to announce the acquisition of Gunboat, Gunboat Managing Partner Benoit Lebizay was proud to present the company’s strong, scalable plans and share details of the two Gunboat 68s currently in production in brand new facilities in La Grande Motte France.

A few special guests traveled from France to spend time with the Gunboat community. Vincent Lauriot Prévost, co-founder and naval architect of VPLP design, took a deeper dive into design elements of the Gunboat 68 project. Radiating a unique passion for multihull sailing, Loick Peyron, Global Advisor to Grand Large Yachting, entertained us with some incredible sailing stories and together with Benoit Lebizay, shared the vision for the future of the Gunboat community in more detail including continuing traditions of Gunboat regattas, rallies, parties and support services.

Gunboat COO William Jelbert also broke away from the Gunboat 68 factory for a few days to join us. “I got to showcase our story directly to the crews and owners in Newport. We’ve relied on their input from the start and it is rewarding to see their enthusiasm about what we are doing over in France on the Gunboat 68. Interestingly, a couple of boats just finished some high-tech refits and we are all converging on methodology. The Gunboat fleet has a bright future!”

With a critical mass of Gunboats in Newport RI for the summer, and in the lead-up to the Newport Bermuda Race, it was truly a special occasion to bring our click of multihull enthusiasts together – and to send off the first three Newport Bermuda Race multihull entries in style!
