Gunboat 68 Factory Tours & the International Multihull Boat Show

April 24th-28th, 2019

The largest in-water boat show happens to be steps from our factory door! This year at the International Multihull Boat Show, although we did not have the completed Gunboat 68 floating in the show (she’s off sailing in the Caribbean!), we still enjoyed the home team advantage by meeting with industry partners, journalists, and Gunboat admirers, with a special emphasis on showing people around the factory.

Following sea trials Gunboat 68 CONDOR is off exploring the world, and now the factory is now buzzing around Gunboats 6802 and 6803 – and 6804 is about to start! Future Gunboat owners who are considering a new-build project are meeting with us to discuss the Gunboat 68 build slot that will deliver in time for their sailing plans, and industry partners and journalists are also checking in. We’re pleased to be at this stage now, discussing tangible reality as well as design/engineering, and demonstrating builds in multiple stages during these tours.

During the show in April, Gunboat 6802 was in the paint shed and remained mostly off limits – we run a tight ship (no pun intended but that one works particularly well!). We were able to bring a few VIPs on board after painting hours to observe Gunboat’s paint booth and how some of the design details begin to pop during this process.

Gunboat 6803 was a sight to see for completely different reasons. 68 x 30 ft of carbon is hot! Beyond the naked eye, the hull infusion process of hull 3 was even neater, tighter and more efficient since we used a flexible, formable 3D mold that can bend to any shape, for an optimized core fit and quicker thermoforming turnaround. This was a nice refinement in composite technology (not a change to the structure), and we’re pleased with the process and outcome.

Thank you to everyone who visited us during the show to find out more about the Gunboat 68 and our company!
